This is REPRESENTATIVE of our week-long journey however trips vary and itineraries are not guaranteed..

Day One - Saturday

Welcome to Fair Wind Sailing School! We meet at the yacht Saturday afternoon in Marsh Harbor, Abaco.  After introductions, we’ll work to fully understand your goals and objectives. Then we'll begin teaching trip preparation, route planning and conduct a few fun exercises to introduce you to the boat and its safety gear. Finally, we’ll provision the boat for our voyage, get you settled into your berths and still have time to enjoy the evening in Marsh Harbor, the third largest city in the Bahamas. Enjoy your first night aboard

Day Two - Sunday

After our morning safety at sea lecture, we'll complete our final boat checks and set out on our first voyage.  We will perform drills under power, raise the sails and do our first trade-wind sailing as we cross Sea of Abaco and head to a quiet anchorage off Guana Cay.  After a full day on the water learning the helm and proper sail trim, we’ll spend our first night on the hook and if we're lucky,  make it to Nipper's in time fo the pig  roast.

Day Three - Monday

Weigh anchor and back to sailing drills in the Sea of Abaco.  The gorgeous waters of the Bahamas present the ideal opportunity to practice navigation skills and "tide timing" .  We complete the day by spending another wonderful night at anchor off of Man-O-War Cay.

Day Four - Tuesday

We sail back out across the sea and end the day with some practice docking in Treasure Cay.  If conditions are right, this is the perfect day to practice putting reefs in the sails and shaking them out.  We will also complete some knot tying as we become much more comfortable sailing the boat.  Finally, she's tied up at the dock and there may be time for a quick swim at one of the world's best beaches.  Also a good night to enjoy some night life off the boat.

Day Five - Wednesday

We sail all the way back to Elbow Cay taking a break to do man over board drills.  Then its planning for a safe approach into the tricky channel opening.  We get to practice mooring ball pick-ups once we arrive into the harbor.  A fantastic day and we spend the evening under the watching light of the famous Elbow Cay Lighthouse enjoying the wonderful little town just a dinghy ride away.

Day Six - Thursday

We'll begin with an early lecture on VHF radio operation, weather and dinghy safety. Then we set sail, performing quick stop man over board drills and more down wind sailing drills on our way to Marsh  Harbor anchorage where we'll again work on our anchor sets.  Then it's more sailing drills, heave-to practice and boat systems work.  Yet another perfect anchor set is rewarded by some great swimming from the boat.  We'll enjoy a relaxing night onboard, practice some knot tying, and review for the final exam as we count shooting stars!

Day Seven - Friday

We begin day seven with final sailing drills followed by docking practice as we complete the short sail back to our home dock in time for our final review.  Congratulations are in order as you pass your ICSO exam and earn the right to do your own bareboat charter!  As we wrap up, it will be difficult to say good-bye to new friends, but you'll leave with the confidence that you have become a capable sailor and the knowledge that your next trip will be as Captain!
